Trapattoni hints at late overhaul of Ireland team

Shay Given and John O'Shea proved their fitness ahead of Euro 2012 as the Republic of Ireland extended their unbeaten run to 14 games with a 0-0 draw against Hungary in Budapest last night.

Given excelled on his return from a knee injury before making a half-time exit, while O'Shea was given the full 90 minutes to prepare him for Sunday's opening Group C fixture against Croatia in Poznan.

However, the Ireland coach, Giovanni Trapattoni, was far from happy with his team's display and hinted he may ditch the 4-4-2 formation that has served him well during his four years in charge. "We have been a bit lucky because in the first half, the opponent deserved to score a minimum of two goals," Trapattoni said. "When we meet a team with one striker, I know that between two lines, we are in difficulty. To have a balance, we have to give up one striker or put one more in midfield."
