Wayne Rooney will wear a special pair of commemorative boots tomorrow night as makes his milestone 100th appearance for England against Slovenia at Wembley Stadium.

The Three Lions captain posed this picture on his Instagram account, showing the orange Nike boots with the number 100 printed on them, and wrote the caption: "Never prouder than representing my country. Looking forward to my 100th cap on Saturday. Thanks to @nikefootball for the new boots #hypervenom."

In his exclusive column for The Independent, Rooney's former Manchester United and England team-mate Paul Scholes writes that Rooney deserves all his caps, and he hopes that he wins at trophy with the national team.

"I think - I hope - that Wayne has one more World Cup finals left in him after next summer’s European Championship," he wrote.

"I would not like him to end his international career as so many of us have done. That is to say, with a shelf full of winners’ medals from our club careers and just a cupboard full of caps – and plenty of regret – from our days with England. "
