The World Cup in Brazil is coming into view and everyone is hoping this summer's carnival can take its place among some of the great tournaments of the past, but who will be the star of the show?

With 75 days to go until things kick-off, check out our latest instalment of 100 players to look out for at the competition below.

75. Diego Lugano (Uruguay)

Centre-half Lugano knows what it takes to be successful in the world’s biggest football spectacle after captaining his side to the semi-final stage in South Africa four years ago, eventually being voted the best skipper of the tournament. He was first given the national team armband when Le Celeste faced England in 2006 and has gone on to earn 92 caps and counting for his country.

However, his domestic career has been hampered by injury and poor form, and after sealing a move to Midlands outfit West Brom last summer, has failed to hold down a regular starting spot. He’s been limited to just five starts for the Baggies.

Despite being a centre-half, he’s managed nine goals at international level. He’s one of four Uruguayan’s currently playing in England’s top division but after suffering a twisted knee against Austria in his countries last international outing, his hopes of breaking into Pepe Mel’s starting XI and helping his new team avoid relegation look slim.

Did you know? It was compatriot Luis Suarez that convinced Lugano to move to the Premier League
