Chelsea fans stabbed in Istanbul: Club launch investigation ahead of Champions League tie against Galatasaray
Details of the two incidents remain sketchy
Chelsea are investigating the stabbing of two of the club’s fans in Istanbul last night, with the injuries sustained not thought to be serious.
The club’s security personnel are gathering evidence in Istanbul this morning. The incidents were described as having taken place separately but around the same bar. The British Consulate in Istanbul are also involved in the process. The key responsibility lies with local police.
Chelsea will be required to provide a report to Uefa on the matter as the incident took place around a Champions League tie. A Metropolitan Police liaison officer travels with Chelsea on away trips as a matter of course to monitor supporter security. The club also work with the Met before games, with preparatory trips to all venues in advance of matches.
