Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has furiously denied allegations that he is using his time in the United States to party with rapper Drake instead of focus on his recovery from his latest injury setback.

Sturridge was sent by his club to the other side of the Atlantic for a period of warm-weather rehabilitation having suffered a third setback in his recovery from injury, this time injuring his thigh after a separate thigh issue and a calf tear.

The England international is hoping to return to action at some point in January having not played since the 3 September during England’s 1-0 victory over Norway in an international friendly.

However, The Sun claims that Sturridge has been using his time in Los Angeles to party with his friend Drake “until the early hours – despite jetting out there for sports injury rehab”.

Sturridge took to his Twitter account to deny the reports though, and told his 1.3m followers that they should not believe anything that isn’t said by him or those associated with the Liverpool striker.

Sturridge said: “I go to Drake's to visit him and catch up and I went for dinner with my friends and supposedly I'm partying!! Really??”

“Looking forward to another week of double session,” he added.

“If you don't hear it from me or anyone associated or see pictures. Don't believe it.... Love my fans...”

The report was even more surprising given that Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers revealed the 25-year-old had travelled to the US with members of the Liverpool medical staff that would undoubtedly be keeping an eye on his progress – and realise if Sturridge was ‘partying’ all night.

Sturridge has also posted pictures on his Instagram account showing him in training as he bids to recover from the string of injuries that has limited him to just three appearances for the Reds this season.

The story is the second football-related ‘exclusive’ to have been rubbished in the space of a day after Queen’s Park Rangers rejected claims that a Christmas Sunday lunch at a London pub descended into a brawl that left Steven Caulker requiring hospital treatment on a head injury.

QPR did confirm that the England defender went to hospital after suffering a cut, but dismissed suggestions that it was caused from a fracas that arose when a woman spilt a drink on Caulker’s centre-back partner Rio Ferdinand.
