David Beckham's plans to install air conditioning in £31.5m 'Beckingham Palace II' mansion have angered neighbours

Former England captain David Beckham has angered his neighbour over plans to install air conditioning in his west London mansion.

Beckham and wife Victoria spent £31.5million in September 2013 to buy the detached Holland Park home - paying in cash - and have spent the last 18 months renovating and modernising the property.

However, the Beckhams have received a strongly worded letter from a neighbour who "totally disagrees" with their plans to install air-conditioning in five rooms.

The neighbour wrote: "The council must identifed (sic) our deep concerns about all adverse impacts on living conditions from noise, vibration, dirt, pollution and dust from construction and from associated traffic, in addition to concerns about impacts on drainage, on appearance and landscape, on structural stability, and on historic buildings."

The couple have hired designer Rose Uniacke to handle the project, with plans approved last year. The renovations will include a lower ground floor wine cellar, a retractable cinema screen as well as re-configuring two bathrooms and removing a third bathroom to provide an extended bedroom.

When complete, the Holland Park home, nicknamed Beckingham Palace II, will have six bedrooms, a study, office, gym, playroom, cinema and large drawing room - the value of the property is expected to rocket up to around £42m.
