England and Wolves mourn death of goalkeeper Bert Williams

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers and England goalkeeper Bert Williams has died, aged 93.

The Midlands club announced that Williams died on Sunday morning at Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital.

Williams made 420 appearances for Wolves, and played his part in their 1949 FA Cup final success. He was also a member of the 1953-54 First Division league championship-winning side.

He won 24 England caps and appeared at the 1950 World Cup in Brazil.
