Two defeats, one draw, seven goals conceded, two goals scored.

This is Louis van Gaal's woeful record from his first three matches in charge of Manchester United.

So how does it compare to the start that his beleaguered predecessor David Moyes recorded from his first three matches as United manager?

During Moyes' first three matches as United manager they had won two, drawn one, scored six and conceded one.

Moyes began his tenure at United with a 2-0 Community Shield win over Wigan, then followed it up with a 4-1 league victory at Swansea City on the opening day and then a 0-0 league draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.

United would lose their fourth match under Moyes - 1-0 at Liverpool - sparking a disastrous season in which the then-champions finished in seventh place.

Moyes was sacked in April after a torrid 10 months in the Old Trafford hotseat, showing that his fine start was only papering over the cracks.
