Less than two weeks after their broadcasting careers appeared to be over, Richard Keys and Andy Gray have been offered a rapid way back with talkSport signing up the disgraced duo to present a daily mid-morning show.

Gray was sacked from his £1.7m-a-year chief pundit's job on Sky Sports last month after sexist remarks from the pair about the assistant referee Sian Massey and several other comments were leaked. Keys resigned after trying to offer a defence of his actions in a talkSport interview.

Yesterday it was announced that the pair will host a three-hour show on Monday through Friday on the commercial station. Gray, who has radio experience from working for talkSport's predecessor, Talk Radio, at the World Cup in France in 1998, and for Five Live at the Japan/South Korea World Cup in 2002, said: "I can't tell you how excited I am about joining the talkSport team. It's an ideal opportunity for Richard and me to do what we do best, and that's talk about sport."

Keys added: "This is the start of something new and exciting for Andy and myself. We are delighted to be joining the talkSport family and can't wait to get going."

TalkSport has the rights to broadcast commentary from 64 live Premier League games – meaning Keys and Gray could eventually return to host coverage of another "Super Sunday", – and announced record audience figures of 3m at the end of last year.

Moz Dee, talkSport's programme director who signed up the pair, said: "Andy and Richard are iconic broadcasters with massive TV careers who I know will have an impact on national radio." Their first show is scheduled for next Monday – ironically Valentine's Day.
