Owen and Henry set to miss crucial encounters

Thierry Henry and Michael Owen will both be missing as Arsenal and Liverpool attempt to stay in touch with Manchester United at the top of the Premiership, as well as chasing trophies on other fronts.

Henry will miss tomorrow's FA Cup quarter-final at Newcastle after Arsenal decided not to appeal against his three-match suspension for improper conduct. The French striker was found guilty at an FA hearing on Wednesday after he confronted referee Graham Poll after Arsenal's 3-1 defeat by the Magpies at Highbury last December.

The suspension had been expected to start on 21 March but, following Arsenal's decision not to appeal, the 24-year-old will now miss the quarter-final at St James' Park and the Premier League matches against Aston Villa and West Ham.

Owen is set to miss next week's Champions' League game in Barcelona after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury. The England international limped out of Wednesday's 3-0 win over Newcastle and could be out of action for at least 10 days.

Tottenham will not be able to appeal against Mauricio Taricco's red card during their 4-0 defeat against Manchester United on Wednesday.

The Argentinian defender was sent off just before half-time for pulling Paul Scholes' shirt and manager Glenn Hoddle said his player should only have received a yellow card. To make matters worse for Tottenham, United were awarded a penalty from which they scored their second goal, even though the offence had occurred outside the area.

The Everton captain, Kevin Campbell, has been ruled out of their FA Cup quarter-final at Middlesbrough on Sunday but should be fit to play a part in the club's relegation battle. Campbell was taken off on Wednesday during the 1-0 defeat to West Ham with an ankle ligament injury, but a scan has revealed no long-term damage.

Bristol City yesterday said they, like Burnley, had made an inquiry about the availability of the Everton midfielder, Paul Gascoigne. The Toffees' manager, Walter Smith, said: "We've had a few enquiries about his position recently, but it has been agreed between Paul and myself that he will remain at Everton until the end of the season."

Aston Villa and the Danish club AB Copenhagen have announced a deal to work together to improve youth development.

Don Hutchison, the West Ham midfielder, has flown to Canada for an operation to repair cruciate ligament damage.

The Norwich City striker Marc Libbra has been banned for three matches following an off-the-ball incident with the Birmingham defender Darren Purse, who was banned for one game, at St Andrew's on 8 December. The striker David Johnson is set to return to Nottingham Forest when his month's loan with Sheffield Wednesday comes to an end.

Youri Djorkaeff, Bolton Wanderers' French World Cup winner, has escaped a jail sentence by paying a £45,000 fine for a hit-and-run offence.

Djorkaeff was accused of failing to settle the sum after he was found guilty of crashing his Mercedes into a car in Germany, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The former Kaiserslautern player, who is on £50,000 a week at the Reebok, claimed he had not received notice of the fine. But a German court has now recovered the money from Djorkaeff's wages.
