Phil Bardsley and Stéphane Sessegnon both had two cars stolen from their homes in the North-east while they were on holiday.

Bardsley, who has been told he has no future at Sunderland by Paolo Di Canio after being photographed surrounded by £50 notes, had two vehicles stolen from his home in East Rainton in a period of 13 days from 21 May.

Sessegnon returned to his home in Ponteland to discover his Range Rover, BMW and a television and jewellery had been taken.

A Northumbria spokesman confirmed a 25-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of a burglary that had taken place in Ponteland and is currently in custody helping with enquiries.
