Peter Bonetti was known as 'The Cat'. Rene Higuita was dubbed 'The Scorpion'. Now we have 'The Goat', and it's the real deal.
Video footage has emerged of a rather insistent gruff that seemed to think it could do a better job between the sticks than the actual goalkeeper.
During the game in Crete, contested between local sides Elounda and Ierapetra, the animal repeatedly interrupted the match by coming on to the pitch and taking its place in goal.
Despite a couple of attempts from players and then the referee to lead the animal away it refused for several minutes. Finally a spectator who appeared to have more goat herding experience managed to lead the animal away.
