Wayne Rooney can speak Spanish, Italian and Indonesian, in addition to his native tongue, it would appear.

The Manchester United captain has reached 10 million followers on Twitter and to celebrate he tweeted out in various languages today.

It seems incredible that the England captain has managed to keep his bilingual abilities to himself all this time, particular for a player who has been criticised for his over use of the word 'Erm' in interviews.

Tweeting out in various languages, in addition to a message in English, was in recognition of the number of followers from abroad he commands on the social media website.

An incredible 74 per cent of them are based outside the UK. Intriguingly he also has more followers in London than any other part of the country. And even MORE fascinating that that, 29 per cent of Rooney's fans on Twitter also follow pop star Katy Perry.

His 10 million followers make him the most popular British athlete on Twitter, and the ninth most-followed UK individual.
