Andy Carroll managed to get engaged to his girlfriend and get kicked out of an H&M store on the same day in what turned out to be an eventful trip to Rome for the injured West Ham striker.

Carroll is nearing a comeback after his latest ankle injury ruled him out of the season to-date, but that did not stop the 25-year-old jetting his long-term girlfriend and former star of TV show The Only Way Is Essex Billi Mucklow to the Italian capital.

His day got off to a bad start, after the England international was told to stop filming a video campaign for Alexander Wang in an H&M store – which featured none other than himself.

Continuing to film the advert, Carroll was told to leave the store by an employee who failed to see the funny side, but Carroll wasn’t too fussed as he posted the video on his Instagram account.

That may have been because Carroll had bigger things on his mind. Carroll was preparing to pop the big question to Mucklow later on that evening, and just like he does on the pitch (occasionally), he found the back of the net.

Mucklow confirmed the news on Instagram, posting: “Last Night The Love Of My Life Asked Me To Marry Him- I'm So Happy! @andytcarroll You Are My Everything And I Can't Wait To Be Your Wife! #MrsCarroll.”

Event management company F13 Events helped Carroll plan the proposal, and tweeted a picture of the happy couple along with a drawing of the two in Rome (Carroll’s image looks suspiciously like Mikel Arteta) with the two smiling in front of the famous Coliseum.

Carroll may be on cloud nine as a result of Mucklow saying yes, but he could get a further boost by being recalled to an in-form Hammers side flying high in fifth in the Premier League. He has not played this season after picking up a similar injury to the one that dogged him throughout last season, but his return will be welcome by the Hammers who have shown they are capable of playing attacking football in the past few weeks.
