Anfield evacuated: Liverpool stadium reopened after police call off search for missing man

The stadium was evacuated following reports of the man's disappearanc on Tuesday afternoon

A security alert at Liverpool’s stadium Anfield has officially ended after police and club officials became satisfied that no people were left unaccounted for inside the ground.

Merseyside Police were called to the scene shortly after 3pm on Tuesday afternoon following a report from the club that a man had gone missing while on a tour of the stadium.

Officers conducted a search of the ground, which was evacuated by the club ‘as a precautionary measure’.

A Liverpool Football Club spokesperson told the Liverpool Echo on Tuesday night: "Anfield Stadium is now fully reopened, following a precautionary evacuation earlier this afternoon.

“During the incident the club's priority at all times was the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

"We can confirm the emergency services were called and we would like to thank them for their thorough response. Also, we acknowledge the patience of those impacted by the temporary closure, which allowed this matter to be dealt with in an appropriate and responsible manner."

Initial reports had suggested that two men were missing although this was later revised.

Liverpool’s Capital One Cup meeting with Bournemouth on Wednesday night will now go ahead as planned.
