Arsenal injury news: Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to miss crucial games against Tottenham and Bayern Munich

The duo will not be available until after the next international break at the earliest, says Arsene Wenger

Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are out until after the forthcoming international break, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has announced.

Both England internationals went off in the opening 20 minutes of Tuesday's Capital One Cup fourth-round loss at Sheffield Wednesday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was replaced after five minutes due to a hamstring problem and, Walcott, who came on in his place, went off after 19 minutes with a calf problem.

Wenger is still waiting for scans to determine the full extent of the injuries, but neither will feature for the Gunners in the next three games or for England in November's international break.

The Frenchman told arsenal.com on Thursday: "Nothing has changed since after the game.

"They are out but the scans are today - it's 48 hours afterwards.

"We hope they are light injuries, but they are out until after the international break."

Did not bomb forward with the same regularity as he often does, perhaps because he was conscious of the pace of Lennon on the counter. The winger gave Bellerin little to worry about and once more there was plenty of defensive maturity from the 20-year-old.

The centre-half was desperately unlucky to see Barkley’s effort deflect off him and past Cech, but otherwise this was a perfectly adequate display from Per Mertesacker’s replacement. He competed well on the rare occasions he had to, but was not often called into action.

His more physical skills were not always needed in a game in which Arsenal were invariably in the ascendancy. But he still has a very useful passing range , which he showed on many occasions operating from the base of Arsenal’s midfield.

A sumptuous delivery for Koscielny’s goal was typical of the Spanish playmaker’s game. After a few insipid games he was at his creative best, pulling the strings from deep and keeping composed and calm as colleagues such as Oxlade-Chamberlain rushed to force chances.

Perhaps the biggest difference between Oxlade-Chamberlain and his senior colleagues is his decision-making, and it showed today. When he should have passed he too often took the direct route, but only ever ran into traffic.

Wenger may be right; this could be the “golden age” of Ozil. Once more the star man lived up to his billing, creating chances at will and providing an outstanding delivery for Giroud’s opener.

The Premier League’s Duracell bunny was running on empty for much of this game. The attitude and endeavour was still there, but he seemed too tired to dictate the outcome of the game. Arsenal will benefit greatly from the week’s rest he will enjoy.

Olivier Giroud - 8 out of 10

He loves playing against Everton, and it showed with a fifth goal in his last five against the visitors. Of course he brought physicality to attack but, after some low moments in recent months, more important was the confidence he played with. He was a bullying presence that Phil Jagielka and John Stones often struggled to deal with.

Arsenal, who are second in the Barclays Premier League, play at Swansea on Saturday.

The Gunners have key games prior to the international break, when England play Spain in Alicante on November 13 and France at Wembley on November 17.

Wenger's men face a crucial Champions League tie at Bayern Munich next Wednesday - they are third in Group F but beat Bayern at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month - before the North London derby with Tottenham in the Premier League on November 8.

Mikel Arteta (ankle), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) and David Ospina (shoulder) were already out and all three will not return until the Gunners resume against West Brom on November 21, at the earliest.

Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain are the latest to join an injury list which includes Danny Welbeck (knee), Jack Wilshere (ankle) and Tomas Rosicky (knee).

Wenger ruled out switching Santi Cazorla from his central position to play wide on the right to fill the void created by the absentees, with Joel Campbell and Alex Iwobi options to the Frenchman.

Asked who he may field on the right wing, Wenger said: "Campbell and Alex Iwobi. Santi can play there as well but he has become very important centrally.

"The problem sometimes is that you can destroy two departments if you move one player out.

"We control the ball better with Santi in the middle."
