Mikel Arteta heaps praise on Arsenal captain Aubameyang after FA Cup final win

Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has been advised against moving to Arsenal—by his national team manager.

The Gunners have reportedly had two offers already turned down already by the Spanish club, who are holding out for the player’s full release clause value.

But Mikel Arteta is keen on him to spearhead the rebuilding of the team and Arsenal are expected to go back in with a third offer at some point, particularly now as Atletico are out of the Champions League.

But Charles Akonnor, who won 41 caps himself in Thomas’ position for Ghana and now manages the national team, hopes his current star doesn’t move to the Emirates anyway.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to move to Arsenal because with Atletico, he will always play Champions League football,’ he said.

“His position is guaranteed and he will always play.

“With Arsenal, I’m not too sure. Arsenal fans will kill me [for saying he should not join them].

“I hope that [he stays], and I’m sure money issues will come in, but I hope that whatever he asks for, Atletico will be able to pay.”

The Gunners are set for an overhaul this summer on and off the pitch, the latter of which has already begun in earnest. Raul Sanllehi has departed, while 55 staff members were made redundant including sections of the scouting team.

In midfield, Arsenal may be unable to loan Dani Ceballos for a second season, while the likes of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira have all been linked with moves away.
