Arsenal vs Liverpool team news: Jordan Henderson losing race to be fit to face Gunners with Lucas Leiva waiting in wings
Liverpool captain a doubt for Monday Night's Premier League clash after limping out of win over Bournemouth
Liverpool head into tonight's Premier League trip to Arsenal with doubts over the fitness of captain Jordan Henderson after the England midfielder limped out of the 1-0 win over Bournemouth last Monday.
Henderson was visibly uncomfortable as he departed the Anfield pitch, and it’s believed the Reds’ skipper is facing a losing battle to recover in time to lead his side out at the Emirates Stadium.
Should that prove to be the case, Lucas Leiva is expected to be given a rare chance to impress despite a move to Turkish side Besiktas believed to be on the cards. The Brazilian was left out of the matchday squad for both 1-0 wins over Stoke and Bournemouth, but manager Brendan Rodgers hinted that the 28-year-old could start if Henderson fails to recover in time.
Liverpool injuries and suspensions
Show all 6Joe Allen would usually be a candidate to replace Henderson, but the Welshman has not yet recovered from a hamstring injury that he suffered in a pre-season game at Swindon that looks to be a lot worse than originally feared.
Along with the injured midfield pair, Jon Flanagan and Daniel Sturridge remain on the long-term injury list. The club are clearly showing caution over Sturridge’s return after seeing his 2014/15 seriously hampered by injury, while Flanagan has not played since the final game of the 2013/14 season after suffering two serious knee injuries.
Otherwise Liverpool have a fully fit squad, and Rodgers could look to hand £29m summer signing Roberto Firmino his first start since sealing his move from German side Hoffenheim last month.
