Arsenal will attempt to sign Thierry Henry until end of the season

All-time leading goalscorer Thierry Henry is expected to join Arsenal on loan in January with the struggling Gunners hoping he will be able to remain with the club until the end of the season.

The New York Red Bulls striker looks certain to come in on loan for a six-week spell during the MLS off-season beginning next month, but a report in The Sun claims manager Arsene Wenger has enquired whether it can be extended to the end of May.

That would mean the Frenchman missing around a third of the MLS season, which kicks off in March.

Any such deal is likely to be met with resistance by New York Red Bulls, where Henry has scored 32 goals in 61 appearances since joining in 2010.

Henry scored 226 goals in his original spell in north London and a further two during a loan last season in which he made seven appearances for the Gunners.

Wenger is hoping that the return of the legend can inspire his stuttering side who currently lie 10th in the Premier League in what has been Arsenal's worst start to a season under the Frenchman's reign.
