Swansea City will attempt to bring former manager Brendan Rodgers back to the club, according to reports.

The South Wales club are close to a £140million takeover from American investors but will make another attempt to bring the Northern Irishman back to the Liberty Stadium, four years after he left for Liverpool.

According to the Daily Telegraph Rodgers, 43, would consider a return to the club, with current boss Francesco Guidolin almost certain to leave the club in the summer.

Rodgers, who has been out of work since being sacked by Liverpool in October, got the Swans promoted to the Premier League in 2010-11 and helped the club establish itself as a Premier League team.

American businessmen Stephen Kaplan and Jason Levein could conclude a deal to takeover the club later this week, believed to be worth an initial £110m; a further £30m will go towards signings and infrastructure.

Current chairman Huw Jenkins is likely to remain on the board and could approach Rodgers before the off-season.

"Swansea City Football Club can confirm it is working to finalise to bring in a new majority shareholder," read a statement released by the club over the weekend.

"Board members have discussed an agreement which will see Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien and their investment group acquiring a controlling interest in the club.

"Chairman Huw Jenkins and vice-chairman Leigh Dineen will remain in their management leadership roles of the club. Talks will continue with the aim of an agreement to be ratified by the end of the season."

Jenkins said: "We believe we have a proposal which help Swansea City progress both on and off the field."
