Chelsea news: Club announce club-record £60m-a-season kit deal with Nike after ending Adidas agreement

The deal will run for 15 seasons after the Blues paid £40m to terminate their contract with Adidas six years early

Chelsea will have more money to spend in the transfer window from next season after they announced a new sponsorship deal with American sportswear company Nike.

The long-term deal will see Nike takeover from Adidas as the Blues’ kit supplier and is worth £60m-a-season, doubling the earnings from their current agreement and representing the largest commercial deal in the club’s history.

The deal will see Nike supply the Stamford Bridge club’s kits for the next 15 seasons, starting in 2017/18 and running until 2032.

Chelsea reportedly paid £40m to cut short their existing agreement with Adidas, which ran until 2023 having been renewed in 2013.

Trevor Edwards, President of the Nike Brand, said: “Chelsea is a world-class club with a rich tradition and passionate fans across the globe.”

The deal falls someway short of Manchester United’s £75m-a-year deal with Adidas however, while it is reported both Real Madrid and Barcelona are in talks for new deals which could earn them over £100m-a-season.

It does however see them outstrip the deals held by Arsenal and Liverpool who earn £30m and £28m per season from Puma and New Balance respectively.

As well as the strips and training gear for the first team, Nike will supply kit for the academy and ladies teams.
