Chelsea in no rush to open John Terry contract talks despite interest from Galatasaray

The former England captain will see his current deal expire in the summer

Despite reported interest from Galatasaray, Chelsea are in no rush to open new contract talks with captain John Terry.

The former England skipper has been heavily linked with a move to Turkey, with Galatasaray reportedly prepared to meet his £170,000-a-week salary.

Terry's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and despite the interest, it's understood the centre-back is keen to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the current campaign.

The Evening Standard report that Chelsea are yet to open talks with Terry and will not make a decision until later in the season.

The Blues have a strict policy of only offering 12-month extensions to players who are over 30. There is no timescale for when talks will start but manager Jose Mourinho will play a key part in the decision and will recommend to the board whether he wants to keep Terry.

Significantly, the duo have a very strong bond and Terry has started every League game since Mourinho returned as manager in the summer.

Asked last month about the prospect of staying, Terry said: “The most important thing is playing. We don’t really know [about the contract]. But now I’m playing well. Hopefully everything else takes care of itself.”
