Chelsea transfer news: John Terry set to be offered manager role with Brondby amid contract confusion

The 35-year-old has been told he will be let go in the summer as the Blues rebuild

Departing Chelsea captain John Terry is reportedly set to be offered an immediate route back into football as manager of Danish club Brøndby this summer.

The 35-year-old has been informed that he will not be handed a new contract at Stamford Bridge after 18 years of service in West London.

Jan Bech Andersen, the Danish side's owner, is said by the Daily Mirror to have an ‘unlikely friendship’ with Terry and would be prepared to offer the former England captain a player-manager role to smooth over negotiations.

Brøndby have put Aurelijus Skarbalius in temporary charge after former boss Thomas Frank resigned last week following a row with the hierarchy at the Brøndby Stadium.

The decision not to grant Terry another year on his contract has caused intrigue across the game with former team-mates and managers leaping to the defender’s defence.

Frank Lampard, now at Major League Soccer outfit New York City, said last month: “I would like to see them offer it. I think it’s obvious John wants it and I think he can still stay at Chelsea.

“Of course I’m friends with John, but purely from a football perspective and from what he’s done on the pitch, and as a starting player in all their big and important games when he’s started them this season, I think he’s been their best defender this year.”
