Cesc Fabregas’ late penalty denied West Ham United a top-four place and their first win at Chelsea in 14 years.

The Spain international converted from the spot in the 89th minute after referee Bobby Madley had penalised Michail Antonio for tripping Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the box.

Manuel Lanzini had given the visitors an early lead with a brilliant curving shot from outside the box, only for Fabregas to equalise on the stroke of half-time with a superb free-kick.

Andy Carroll, who came on as a second-half substitute for Diafra Sakho, restored the Hammers’ lead after only a minute on the field.

However, the late penalty, Fabregas’ second leveller of the game, meant Slaven Bilic’s side had to settle for a point.

West Ham would have moved into the top-four had they won, thereby boosting their hopes of Champions League qualification.
