Jose Mourinho has told Chelsea’s youngsters they will only break into his first team when they are good enough.

Dominic Solanke and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have played well for the youth teams this season but the manager of the Premier League leaders said: "If they are good enough [to get in the first team], yes.

"But this club is very demanding. The pressure is big. It is not a club where people just accept a so-so performance, or result or accept that you finish fifth.

"This is not the best habitat for a young player to be developed. There is no space for a player that is not ready.

"When did I play Solanke? Winning 5-0 against Maribor. I cannot play him against Southampton with 30 minutes to go and the result 1-1."
