Crystal Palace are pushing ahead with a move for Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita, but face strong competition from Watford.

The Eagles are keen to improve their goalkeeping options this month, with Julian Speroni reaching the end of his career and Wayne Hennessey in and out of the team.

Guaita is expecting to leave La Liga in January as Getafe look to salvage a fee before his contract expires in the summer.

The price will likely be in the region of £4m but Palace’s January plans have been complicated somewhat by the season-ending injuries to Scott Dann and Jason Puncheon.

Dann’s absence means they will need to bring in another defender but Roy Hodgson also had considered signing a defensive midfielder this month to free up his attacking players.

Given the club’s financial restraints, there will likely be a slight change in plans but Lille’s Ibrahim Amadou, who can play both at centre-back and in midfield, remains an option.

Bakary Sako’s improvement as a forward means there is less desperation to provide Christian Benteke with competition. Connor Wickham is also continuing his recovery from a long-term injury.
