Gabriel Jesus faces another period on the sidelines after limping off injured and in tears during Manchester City’s trip to Crystal Palace.

The 20-year-old striker was brought off after just 23 minutes at Selhurst Park with an injury that, if his own reaction was anything to go by, could prove to be serious.

Jesus had gone to ground 10 minutes earlier and tried to continue after slipping awkwardly while controlling the ball, but was eventually replaced by Aguero after needing attention a second time.

Crystal Palace fans showed sympathy for the young forward, applauding him as he gingerly made his way to the dressing room.

Chosen in favour of Sergio Aguero for the New Year's Eve clash in south London, Jesus was looking for his first goal since the end of November.

Having scored eight goals in 11 starts for City this season, manager Pep Guardiola will be hoping the injury isn’t serious, with Jesus' replacement Aguero also being linked with a move away from the club.

The Brazil international had previously suffered a two-month injury spell with a broken metatarsal shortly after joining the club last January, and also fractured his eye socket during the summer.
