It was all smiles on the full-time whistle for Manchester United as Watford’s Troy Deeney cancelled out his own equaliser with a late own-goal.

However, as Louis van Gaal’s side congratulated each other while walking off the pitch, Daley Blind could be forgiven for not enjoying the final minutes as much as his teammates.

With Watford pushing for a second equaliser moments after Deeney had re-established the away side’s lead, full back Juan Carlos Paredes won a throw-in in the final third.

The Ecaudorian international duly looked to propel the ball into the box with as much power as possible but, rather than finding a teammate, he struck Blind in the face at point-blank range.

The former Ajax utility man had jumped to block the ball’s path but had not quite accounted for the amount of power in Paredes’ throw, which sent him falling to the floor.

Blind was subsequently treated by United’s medical team for a nosebleed. Not that the incident bothered Paredes too much, who immediately tried to play on with Blind strewn out on the ground.

Some people have even suggested that the Watford player intentionally aimed the ball at Blind.
