Daniel Sturridge set to feature for Liverpool in Premier League curtain raiser against Stoke

Martin Skrtel could also play a part after the pair recover from individual knee injuries

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge could play some part in the Reds Premier League opener against Stoke tomorrow after being rated at 80 per cent in his recovery from a knee injury.

Tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off at Stoke signals the arrival of the new season, and both Sturridge and Martin Skrtel – who is also recovering from a knee injury – are expected to be available for the clash, although the defender is likely to start among the replacements.

New arrivals Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure look set to make their competitive debuts along with Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto, with all four summer signings being named in the provisional match-day squad.

However, striker Luis Suarez – his future still far from settled – remains unavailable as he will sit out the first six matches of the season, with the Uruguayan serving a 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last season.

Daniel Agger has also been included, having been named the new vice-captain at Anfield over the summer despite clear interest from Barcelona, who want to sign either the Danish centre-back or Chelsea’s David Luiz.
