Danny Ings injury: Liverpool striker ruled out for rest of the season

Ings suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in his first training session with Jurgen Klopp on Wednesday and comes a day after Joe Gomez suffered a similar season-ending injury

Danny Ings has become the second Liverpool player this week to be ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining a cruciate knee ligament injury in training at Melwood yesterday.

Jürgen Klopp did not know the severity of Ings’ problem when he spoke to the media at his first pre-match press conference before Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

Ings had returned from senior England duty on Wednesday morning and he was struck down in his first session working with the German, who was appointed as Liverpool’s manager last week.

The news comes less than 24 hours after it was revealed Joe Gomez could miss up to nine months after suffering exactly the same injury while on international duty with England’s under 21 team.

Klopp seemed disappointed that England’s medical team had not given Liverpool “the perfect information” in the aftermath of Gareth Southgate’s side’s 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan.
