Diego Costa was given a two-day break by Jose Mourinho after he played 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City on Saturday evening.

The Spanish striker was a doubt to play the game at all after his continued hamstring issues caused him to miss the Community Shield and friendly with Fiorentina.

Mourinho said he was surprised by Costa lasting the full 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge, especially as Chelsea played more than half an hour with only 10 men.

The Portuguese boss decided to allow Costa to have two days off before coming back to training ahead of the massive trip to the Etihad to face Manchester City on Sunday.

"He (Costa) did very well, and again the second half is very difficult because it was a big difference, one player less and a lot of effort. Even so I was not expecting him to resist for 90 minutes," Mourinho said.

"But because we wanted to try to get a goal we went with him until the end and it was very important and new for us that he played for 90 minutes with such a physical performance.

"He is happy with the reaction. He is OK, happy, he is very happy and with the reaction with his body after such a hard game."

Costa opted to fly to Ibiza and was pictured on Instagram at nightclub Ushuaia on Sunday night, where Swedish DJ Avicii was playing at the popular open-air venue.

The striker was pictured in the VIP section with another DJ, Benny Benassi and with a number of fans.

Benassi posted a picture with Costa, writing: "Just signed with Chelsea for next season. Mourinho promised i'll be the New number 10 with Diego Costa."

The event only lasted until midnight, so Costa probably wasn't out too late. Chelsea's players are set to return to training on Tuesday.
