Jürgen Klopp has suggested that Divock Origi could play again this season despite suffering a serious injury in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby.
Origi was stretchered off with a damaged ankle during Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Everton at Anfield after a reckless tackle by Ramiro Funes Mori.
Unconfirmed reports emerging from the striker’s native Belgium on Thursday suggested that Origi would be out for 4 to 6 weeks, effectively ruling him out of the rest of his club’s season.
Klopp, however, suggested that the 21-year-old could feature again during the final weeks of the campaign, despite the severity of his injury.
"It's an injury. It's serious. The season is not over [for him] without taking a risk with the player," Klopp said at his press conference on Friday ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Newcastle United.

"A long time ago I had an ACL & I played after 4 months,” he added. “We should not say his season is over."
A specific timeframe for Origi’s recovery is yet to be established and the striker was expected to undergo further scans on his ankle on Friday.
The Belgium international, who has enjoyed an impressive run of goalscoring form in recent weeks, will hope to regain fitness in time to play at this summer’s European Championships in France.
Origi’s injury follows season-ending setbacks for Liverpool midfielders Jordan Henderson and Emre Can, who are all but certain to be sidelined until late May.
