Everton donate £200,000 to cancer fund of five-year-old Sunderland fan

Everton have pledged to donate £200,000 to a young Sunderland fan who is seeking life-saving treatment in his fight against cancer.

Five-year-old Bradley Lowery led out the Black Cats alongside captain Jermain Defoe ahead of the 3-0 defeat to Everton on Monday night and received a round of applause from the Stadium of Light during the fifth minute.

Both sets of fans sang ‘there’s only one Bradley Lowery’ and passed around a banner carrying the message ‘we’re with you Bradley’.

While Romelu Lukaku’s hat-trick ensured the win for the visitors, the good news for Bradley came after the final whistle when Everton announced their donation and invited the youngster to the return fixture at Goodison Park.

They posted on Twitter: "Everton Football Club has pledged a donation of £200,000 to support @Bradleysfight in his brave battle.

"We wish Bradley every success and he has the love and support of every Evertonian.

"The Club will also be inviting Bradley and his family to the return game at Goodison Park and the players' signed shirts from tonight's game will be auctioned off to support the fund."

Bradley’s hero is Defoe and he was awe struck at all the players knowing who he was.

“This has been amazing,” he told the Sunderland Echo. “I got to meet Jermain Defoe, who's my favourite and everyone said my name. Thank you everyone.”

It is the second time Bradley has suffed from neuroblastoma and the special treatment he requires in the United States costs around £700,000.
