Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny will serve a two-match ban after his appeal against his sending off in the Newcastle match on Sunday was dismissed by the Football Association.

It means he will miss the away games against Wolves tomorrow and Everton on Sunday.

Koscielny was red carded after holding back Nile Ranger as Newcastle went on to win 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium thanks to a goal from Andy Carroll.

A summer signing from French club Lorient, Koscielny was sent off on his debut in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

In a statement the FA said: "At a regulatory commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal from Arsenal's Laurent Koscielny was dismissed.

"As a result, Koscielny will serve a two-match suspension with immediate effect as this was his second dismissal of the season.

"Koscielny was dismissed for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity against Newcastle on 7 November."
