Frank Lampard could face the possibility of a Chelsea exit this summer after talks hit a stumbling block over a contract extension, with the club reportedly demanding that the England midfielder take a pay cut in order to remain at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard will head to Brazil next month as the oldest member of Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, but he could return from South America a free agent should negotiations continue to stall between himself and Chelsea’s hierarchy.
Jose Mourinho has made it clear this week that he would like Lampard to remain a part of his team as he structures a Premier League-winning side for next season, but it is said that the wage offered to the midfielder is out of his control.
Having given his end of season report to the Chelsea board on Monday, Mourinho also explained his vision for the summer, where it is thought he asked for Lampard to be retained for more than a single season.

The plan is for Lampard, who will turn 36 during the World Cup on 20 June, to become part of the Blues’ coaching staff, much like what has happened in recent years with Manchester United and their famed ‘Class of 92’.
Lampard will likely be England's vice-captain in Brazil (GETTY IMAGES) However, any deal hinges on Lampard taking a cut in his current £150,000-a-week salary, otherwise he will be on the lookout for a new club for next season.
