Gokhan Inler: Leicester City 'have a positive spirit' under Claudio Ranieri

Former Napoli midfielder, who joined for £4.8m, is keen to impress in the Premier League

Gökhan Inler says he is relishing the prospect of joining the 'positive spirit' at Leicester City under manager Claudio Ranieri.

The 31-year-old was officially presented to the media after signing a three-year contract with the East Midlands club yesterday afternoon as Ranieri's pursuit of a replacement for Esteban Cambiasso drew to a close.

Inler, who has 83 caps for Switzerland, is keen to be his own man at the King Power Stadium after leaving Serie A outfit Napoli and turning down interest from across Europe.

He said: "I will give my best, give my quality to the team. When we win, we win together. When we lose, we lose together. It doesn’t matter whether I play like Esteban or not.

"For me, first of all, it was not easy for me. I had a lot of teams interested but this is football, this is normal.

"It takes a long time because when you want a good transfer you need time to check everything. In the end I decide here, I am very happy. I feel this is right way."

Leicester have made a raucous start to the new Premier League campaign, beating both Sunderland and West Ham United in their opening two fixtures, and Inler says there is a lot to like about the way they play football.

"Everything was perfect for me," he added. "With the coach, with the owners, the facilities, the club, the team; I saw how they play and I think I can help how they play.

"I see the young guys and it’s important to be in a squad who wants to grow up together."

Ranieri, who hinted that the Foxes may be tempted to make one more signing if the possibility presents itself, is delighted to welcome Inler to Leicester.

The Italian said: "I am very happy because he is a very experienced player from Italy where the football is very tactical. After Esteban it was important to bring a different player with the same mentality.

"I spoke with him and told him: ‘If you come here, you will go back young'. The spirit here, the unit, the staff, everybody around me is fantastic. I told him what happens here in Leicester."
