Jamie Redknapp reveals manager job offers, but former Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher is still waiting

The Sky Sports pair discuss the merits of going into coaching in the wake of Gary Neville's move to Valencia

Former Liverpool pair Jamie Carragher and Jamie Redknapp have discussed the merits of going into management with the latter claiming he has been offered work.

Aside from an offer of temporary coaching with Championship outfit MK Dons and a spell with England's youth set-up, Carragher revealed he has ‘never’ been offered a management position since retiring at Anfield in 2013.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Redknapp suggested he would one day like to try his hand at a profession in which his father, Harry, became a cult icon at West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur.

Asked if he has been offered any roles in the past, amid giggling from his colleague, the 42-year said: “Yeah, a few. I have! I’ve been offered a few jobs.”

Carragher, meanwhile, says he has worked with the England youth set-up at St George’s Park but has not done any coaching since. The duo are currently continuing to work for Sky Sports after Gary Neville left the broadcaster to take over at La Liga side Valencia.

“I’ve never been offered anything in football,” Carragher added. “I’ve been asked to a little bit of stuff with England under-17s and enjoyed that.”

Redknapp then asked: “I thought MK Dons asked you, didn’t they?”

But his former Anfield team-mate rebuffed the suggestion and clarified that it was just a short-term offer, one which he ultimately turned down.

“Yeah, they asked me to go down for something. Not to be a coach but maybe do a few bits and bobs with the defenders there but never done that.

“I’ve never been offered a full-time role at a club or management or anything like that. If it was something that you really fancy, I suppose, but when I say ‘fancy’ I mean I would have to move from Liverpool. My kids are at school there, so I’m basically waiting for Jurgen [Klopp, Liverpool manager] to give me call.”

Redknapp, on the other hand, appeared more intrigued by the idea but says he is happy continuing in punditry for now. “I would never say never but I do think one day I’ll have a go at it but not now, not in the near future.”
