Jamie Vardy celebrated his surprise call up to the England squad with a goal after just 16 minutes as Leicester City took an early lead over Queens Park Rangers.

The Foxes confirmed their Premier League survival with a draw away at Sunderland last week and their joy was doubled when Vardy was given a call by Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson.

The former Fleetwood Town forward was playing non-league football just five years ago but can now look forward to the prospect of playing alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney and Raheem Sterling next month.

The 28-year-old capitalised on a poor error by Rangers goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, following a tame Riyad Mahrez shot, to fire the Foxes into an early lead.

Nigel Pearson's men could finish the season on 41 points with a victory - a remarkable achievement considering that they had just 19 at the beginning of April.

On the stroke of half-time, Vardy's countryman Marc Albrighton then smashed a half-volley past McCarthy to double the hosts' advantage.
