Many a report is suggesting Jose Mourinho is on the brink of being named the Manchester United manager, replacing Louis van Gaal. But just why will he be a perfect fit at Old Trafford? Here are five reasons...

1. Ronaldo return

The pair won the La Liga in 2012, and despite their often tempestuous relationship, Ronaldo revealed only last month that he would work with fellow Portuguese Mourinho again. "I’ve got two more years on my contract with Real Madrid, but no-one knows what the future holds," the 30-year-old forward said.

2. Second season success - guaranteed

Even including his second spell at Chelsea, he has won the league title at EVERY club he has been at in his second season with them. This means, should he take the United job before the end of this season, the Reds Devils will be celebrating the Premier League title in 2016/17.

3. Sir Alex Ferguson loves him

Manchester United's legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson is his biggest fan. "He’s good looking, he’s got that sort of George Clooney bit in his hair now," Ferguson recently said. "But I think he is a great example, he can speak five languages or whatever he can." What a glowing endorsement. Ferguson also talked up his managerial merits, too.

4. The fans are already singing his name

At the weekend, United fans were chanting Mourinho's name after going 2-0 down against Norwich at Old Trafford. Despite his Chelsea links, 'The Special One' will not need to work to win the United faithful over.

5. He always wanted Rooney - now he could be the man to get the best out of him

On numerous occasions over the years, Mourinho has wanted to sign Wayne Rooney. During the pre-season of 2013, Mourinho even admitted that Rooney was Chelsea's only transfer target. If anyone can get Rooney firing again, it's the manager who has coveted him so strongly over the years.
