Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina admits he had to re-evaluate his position at Anfield after a disappointing start to the season.

Some of the Spain international's performances were criticised for being below-standard and the 30-year-old accepts he was also unhappy.

Now, after putting in additional work on the training ground, Reina feels he is back on track in terms of where he wants to be.

"I was a little bit upset with myself and it was a time to show a bit of commitment and get a fresh start from zero - and that's what I've tried to do," said the goalkeeper, whom manager Brendan Rodgers revealed last week had lost half a stone in weight as part of his new regime.

"I feel fresher, I feel lighter and I am ready for more. I'm on the way to my best.

"People say goalkeepers reach their best in their 30s, and I am 30 right now, so hopefully my golden days are still waiting for me."

Reina played down the extra hours he has been putting in, insisting improving Liverpool defensively has been a collective effort.

"I'll just keep it to myself but it was just trying to work as hard as I could and be as professional as I could - but the rest of my team-mates have been doing exactly the same as me," he told liverpoolfc.com.

"We are all together in that in making those improvements.

"It's down to the defensive performance, collectively.

"I've always said a good team is built from the back and this is no different.

"There's no doubt that the more clean sheets we keep, the better it'll be for the team."
