Klopp expresses sympathy for Mourinho

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has backed Jose Mourinho and his Chelsea players to turn their form around, and has urged the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge not to doubt their manager given his own experiences in such situations.

Klopp saw his team record a first Premier League victory under his tenure in the 3-1 victory over the Blues thanks to two goals from Philippe Coutinho and a third from Christian Benteke, but he was quick to support Mourinho after the match.

The 48-year-old went through a troublesome patch last season with Borussia Dortmund that eventually led to his departure from the Bundesliga club at the end of the season, but he explained how the constant support of the club meant he and the players were able to turn around their form and qualify for the Europa League.

“I feel for him, it’s normal,” Klopp said of Mourinho’s current circumstances. “He’s a great coach, I don’t think anyone in this room is in doubt that he is one of the best managers in the world.

“Bad things like this happen and I had a similar situation in Dortmund last year and the good thing was nobody in the club was in doubt about my position. I never felt pressure from…I don’t know where. So we could change the situation with the quality of players.

“Chelsea don’t need to talk about this because they can change it. I feel for him of course but it’s normal work to change it and they will change it but today we were here for the three points, not here for changing the situation for Chelsea.”
