Leicester City linked with unknown US third division manager Predrag Radosavljevic for vacant post

Leicester City have been linked with hiring Predrag Radosavljević as their new manager in what would be one of the most startling appointments in recent times.

The 52-year-old announced he is to leave United Soccer League side Sacramento Republic this evening and has now been installed as the favourite with most bookmakers to replace Nigel Pearson at the King Power Stadium.

Neither Sacramento, in the third tier of US soccer, nor Leicester have commented on his future. He has also been linked with a coaching role at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

Known as ‘Preki’, the Serbia-born American boss has previously enjoyed short spells in charge of Major League Soccer duo Chivas and Toronto.

Meanwhile, the Foxes have eyed targets including former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink while Bolton boss Neil Lennon is another option.

Despite leading Sacramento to the United Soccer League Championship last season, Leicester supporters have already expressed their anger at his possible appointment.

“This was not a decision I made lightly,” Radosavljević said in a statement last night.

“The opportunity ahead is a lifetime dream for me and a chance to challenge myself at the highest level of the game.”

Preki won 28 caps for the United States after acquiring US citizenship in 1996 and spent two years at Goodison Park with Everton.

Later making 25 starts for the Toffees, scoring four goals, he soon moved to Portsmouth for £100,000 but spent just one season in southern England.

Following two spells in the MLS, he was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2007.
