Leicester City are set for talks with Ron-Robert Zieler, the Germany goalkeeper, after his club Hannover 96 confirmed he is due in the England this week for a medical.

The 27-year-old former Manchester United trainee operates as back-up to Manuel Neuer for Joachim Löw’s world champions and has continued to impress domestically despite Hannover suffering relegation from the Bundesliga last term.

Zieler’s contract is reported to include a £2.6m release clause with the Premier League champions looking to strengthen across the board ahead of their maiden campaign in the Champions League.

“Ron-Robert Zieler has exercised its option right enshrined in his contract and Hannover 96 has been informed that he will travel to the English champions Leicester City for contract talks,” a statement from the club read. “In addition, the goalkeeper will complete the sports medical examinations in England.”

Meanwhile, Leicester hope to conclude a deal for Luis Hernández, the departing Sporting Gijón defender, who is set to join on a free transfer. The 27-year-old said he would be leaving Gijón after helping them secure their La Liga status on the final day.
