Liverpool have completed the overhaul of their youth system with under-21s manager Alex Inglethorpe's promotion to academy director one of a number of changes.

The club parted company with former academy director Frank McParland and head of coaching Rodolfo Borrell - both from ex-boss Rafael Benitez's era - in November and have been reassessing operations at their Kirkby base since.

Inglethorpe, who joined the academy in November 2012 as under-21s coach, will now be responsible for the overall set-up, ensuring the academy teams' style of play and coaching mirrors that of Brendan Rodgers' first team.

Michael Beale takes over the under-21s, Pepijn Lijnders joins from Porto as under-16 manager, and former academy player Michael Yates returns as coach for the under-sixes to under-nines.

Nick Marshall, formerly of Barnsley, Leeds, Nottingham Forest and the Football Association, arrives as head of academy football operations - responsible for implementing the elite player performance plan and working closely with the player recruitment team.

The new head of academy business operations is Andrew Powlesland, who joins from London South Bank University and has responsibility for academy facilities and operations.

"Liverpool FC Academy is known around the world for developing some of the best football talent over the last two decades," said chief executive Ian Ayre.

"This new structure will help us build on the success we have achieved so far.

"Not only will we continue to produce outstanding players who uphold the club's values, we will ensure they have the best environment and work with best-in class coaches and support staff."
