Mamadou Sakho issued an apology to Liverpool and their supporters after he was spotted leaving the stadium prior to the Merseyside derby.

The France international was not included in the squad for the game against Everton and opted to leave Anfield prior to the game. The 24-year-old was photographed by a fan leaving prior to the lunchtime kick-off.

Sakho took to social media to apologise for his action.

"I really want to apologise to the club, the supporters and every person who felt offended when I left the stadium this afternoon," he said on his Facebook page.

"I'm aware that it was a bad choice from my part to go isolating to watch the game!"

Liverpool drew 1-1 with their local rivals. Toffees skipper Phil Jagielka's last-gasp screamer cancelled out Steven Gerrard's free-kick.
