Liverpool vs Hull: Jurgen Klopp promises to 'address the situation' after Mamadou Sakho's Snapchat rant

Jürgen Klopp revealed that he “will address the situation,” after Mamadou Sakho used Snapchat to claim that suggestions he is not fit to play for Liverpool are untrue.

The French defender, who has not played since April, was absent from the squad again as Liverpool trounced Hull City 5-1 at Anfield, with Ragnar Klavan chosen instead of Sakho to replace Dejan Lovren who was absent with a virus.

“I accept my situation but I can't accept the lie - the fans deserve to know the truth,” Sakho wrote at three o’clock on Saturday morning.

“Now it's three weeks since I am fit to play games. I finish all my rehabilitation work.

“I will speak soon for the people who support me and don't understand the situation.”

Though Klopp was in a good mood after witnessing his team score more than four goals in a game for the fourth time in eight matches this season – representing the club’s joint best goalscoring start in a Premier League campaign – he left a warning for Sakho.

“On matchday I am in a wrong mood to know about it. It is not the right moment to speak about it. It makes sense to think about something and then you give the right answer. It is not positive, I would say.”

Despite equaling records, Klopp believes Liverpool can play better than they did during this victory, which was more or less secure by half time, having taken a 3-0 lead.

“I saw the second half too unfortunately,” he smiled. “I don’t know how many times in my 4-500 games as a manager I won 5-1. I don’t want to criticise but I think we could have done better in the second half. It was good, but not as good as it could have been. I am really happy but I am quite a thankful person usually so I am really thankful for the first half. We have a lot of things to improve and one is that if you are brilliant you need to be brilliant for 95 minutes.”

Mike Phelan, the caretaker Hull manager, admitted Liverpool were irresistible, especially in the first half, which saw Ahmed Elmohamady sent off for his side after handling on the line.

“Liverpool are flying,” he said. “You can see their mentality is good. Their work rate is up there with the best. They are looking a very, very good team that has gelled together. They are expressing that desire that they want to achieve something. It is going to be difficult to play against Liverpool in that mood.”

Phelan, who marked his 54th birthday with a crushing defeat, is hopeful of being given a permanent contract by Hull’s board soon.

“I have an offer to become manager. It is down to the current owners. I am ready and willing. They have stressed they want me for the challenge. It is just waiting for that moment where they put that piece of paper in front of me and I will do what I have to do.”
