Liverpool FC: A look back at 2018

Liverpool moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League with an all-too-comfortable win over Newcastle.

Goals from Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho earned the Reds the easiest of victories at Anfield and coupled with Manchester City's defeat at Leicester saw them extend their lead.

Here's how they did it:

GOAL LIVERPOOL! 3-0

Shaqiri makes it three and it's a party at Anfield.

80 mins: Newcastle can't clear their lines and it's Shaqiri who taps home. Much of the good work comes from Henderson and Alexander-Arnold, who drills the ball across for Shaqiri to tap home.

This game hasn't been close.

GOAL LIVERPOOL! 4-0

Fabinho heads home from a corner and they are dreaming of a league title on Merseyside.

The simplest of headers for the substitute after Lovren misses his chance to double his tally.

Newcastle utterly sunk here.

It has been an unambitious performance from Newcastle but the opposite from Liverpool, who have huge ambitions.

Can they win the title? My view is that it'll likely depend on their European progress and now much of a distraction that proves, but they are a lot better than 18 teams in this league.

We're just seeing out injury time now ahead of a 4-0 win being confirmed (maybe 5-0) if they have time.

FT: Liverpool 4-0 Newcastle

That was as one-sided as it comes. With Manchester City losing, this is an enormous result for the hosts.

Thanks for joining us today, and if you're a Liverpool fan then may I wish you the happiest of holidays.
