Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has hailed new signing Bastian Schweinsteiger, calling him a "massive legend" who will "help the team push for trophies".

The 30-year-old Schweinsteiger joined United from Bayern Munich for £15m this summer. He had spent his entire career at Bayern, wining 21 trophies in addition to the World Cup last year with Germany.

"He's a massive legend," the 20-year-old told Sky Sports News. "For someone with that much experience to come into the team will be vital to help us push for some trophies this season."

"He's one of the most humble guys I've come across. He's not not too loud and he's quite funny at the same time. It's nice to have a German around in the dressing room."

Shaw spoke of another new United addition this summer, £25m Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven.

"I've got on well with Memphis Depay. He’s a different character," Shaw said. "It’s good for the changing room and he’s confident about his own ability.

"It’s something new to have but it's very good to have."
