Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is a doubt to play in the Manchester derby, revealed his manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean boss, speaking at his press conference, said that the Belgian centre-back would go through a fitness test on Saturday to make a final decision.

"We'll see tomorrow if he can play or not," he said. "It's better with Kompany but if he can't play, we have a squad."

Pellegrini added that Stevan Jovetic had a muscular injury and said Wilfried Bony would not be available for the derby after twisting his ankle and knee in Monday's defeat at Crystal Palace.

Despite Manchester United currently flying and City struggling, Pellegrini does not believe the outcome of the derby will make or break either side's season.

"It's an important game as we're close in the table but I don't think the season is finished for either side after," he said.

Asked for his views on Sunday's opponents, Pellegrini added: "I think that they have a lot of respect for us - in the last few years we dominated the derby and the Premier League.

"They bought a lot of very good players (in the summer) Angel di Maria, Ander Herrera, Radamel Falcao and Daley Blind. It's not a surprise they're doing well."
