Manchester United have blocked fierce rivals Manchester City from recording behind-the-scenes footage at Old Trafford during this Sunday’s Manchester derby after turning down a request to film the away dressing room.

City have agreed a £10m deal with Amazon Prime to film a revealing documentary throughout the season, with the club revealing numerous clips of from the tunnel after every Premier League home match this season.

A few Premier League clubs have allowed City to film their away matches too, but United will not be one of them after they rejected a request to have Amazon Prime cameramen in the tunnel this weekend due to their belief that it will already be crowded due to the number of licenced broadcasters already there.

It’s understood that 23 individual television rights holders have requested to broadcast the match, meaning that space inside Old Trafford will be at a premium.

But it is also likely to trigger the rivalry between the two sides, given that it will be a blow to City’s plans to release a revealing documentary next year as arguably the biggest clash of the season in the Premier League’s first and second-placed teams – and the first meeting of the season between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho – will not be included in the film.

There will be extra attention on the Premier League clash on Sunday as the two look to pull away from the rest of the pack in the title race, although a victory for City would give Guardiola’s side an 11-point lead over the rest of the pack. However, they go into the match off the back of their first defeat of the season, having suffered a 2-1 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday night.
